Today, we have men who take an interest in personal grooming. It’s not a trend, like metrosexualism was a trend. These “male groomers” are part of an evolving renaissance in the male community. They are men who sweat all day in the sun, they are men who sit behind a desk, they are men who work underground, but they all have a common denominator: They all consider skin care to be a necessary aspect of overall health.

These are blokes who take care of their skin. No questions asked, no stereotypical jibes. It has become extraordinarily commonly accepted (at least compared to a decade or two ago) for men to take pains and precautions to ensure the longevity and health of their body’s largest organ.
The rapidly growing number of men visiting beauty salons reflects this fact, as does the marked increase of males as a percentage of visitors to beauty salons. I’m not going to come straight out and say that a male visiting a beauty salon is a perfectly accepted scenario. However, it has lost so much of the previous stigma that it simply isn’t an issue anymore.
We see men come in all the time for hair removal, which is one of our most popular treatments for males. However, we are seeing an ever-increasing number of men come into our salon seeking skin care advice. They are savvy and often far more discerning than women when it comes to skin care products. They are interested not in experimentation, but only in purchasing products which are proven to work.
I, for one, will be interested to see where this movement takes us. I’m sure in the future we’ll definitely be seeing some older lads out there with flawless skin, putting all of us girls to shame!
